Alfons Gallery continues its annual tradition of presenting a fall exhibition spotlighting the observance of the Hispanic "Dia de Los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) cultural celebration. This year, “Day of the Dead: Honoring Past Lives” presents works created by Alverno College students, alumnae, faculty, and staff, along with School Sisters of St. Francis.

An opening reception will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with an artist talk presented at 2:00 p.m. All ages are welcome and light refreshments will be served at this free event.

This year’s installation is a floor-to-ceiling, circular "ofrenda" (altar) surrounding a meditation space in the main Gallery. The smaller, entrance gallery space will provide opportunities for visitors to engage in honoring deceased loved ones by sharing their stories and creating paper flowers to add to the installation, which includes a traditional "ofrenda."

Cecilia Castro of Alverno College is the liaison for this year’s exhibit. She and Christell will integrate the work submitted from Alverno contributors into this year’s "ofrendas" and meditation space.

“Day of the Dead: Honoring Past Lives” is on view through November 10.
